Personal protective device

Inspired by both the 60s space age aesthetic and personal flotation devices such as life vests and life rafts. The design uses volume as a form of protection of the body and hair from natural elements, particularly water. A juxtaposition of sharp, structured volume with soft flow and transparency provides protection and also allows the body to breathe. The use of the clear material vinyl, reminiscent of PVC used in the 60s and protective gear, aides in the garments function as rain protection.

Vessel

This body is only a vessel.

Watch as the limbs spill out. Spill out into piles of loose, uncertain mess.

Detached from a mind, a carrier, a borrower.

A borrower that gives up its position

It's too tight. Too confined. Let it go. Unbuttoned. Spilling down.

What is left now?

What is protecting you? When the skin of your back spills out.
Vessel examines the body as an imperfect protector.

The collection looks at the body turned inside out with the imperfections on display. The corduroy jacket is hand dyed and aged revealing wear and uneven dye patches. This shell is meant to protect the body, referencing military jackets and uniforms for its silhouette. The transparent shorts overlay represents this shield shedding or spilling down the body.
