Quilted Framework

This collection is a dialogue between American Quilting Tradition and French Court Fashions in the 1860s. I examine my personal relationship to luxury and French history by connecting quilting and patchwork , two crafts rooted in my heritage and sense of familiarity, with the structured elegance of French couture. Through this juxtaposition I explore themes of community, alienations, and opulence while using quilting as not only as a technique for silhouettes and drapes but also merging its patterns and motifs with other materiality explored during my time abroad such as machine knitting, digital prints, and fur manipulation.
